Degree in medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, Universidade do Porto in 1992.
General residency at Hospital São João as well as specialty residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery, completed in 2001.
Examination and approval for the European degree of cardiothoracic surgeon in the same year.
Fellowship in reconstructive surgery of the aortic root and mitral valve at LUMC in Leiden, Netherlands (2003 - 2004).
Initiated doctoral course in clinical research and health services in 2008.
Organized the opening of Cardiothoracic Surgery Services in three private hospitals.
President of the College of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the Ordem dos Médicos (Portuguese Medical Association) (2017 - 2021).
