Degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidade de Lisboa in January 1974.
Specialist in Maxillofacial Surgery and also in General Surgery and Stomatology by the Ordem dos Médicos (Portuguese Medical Association).
Doctoral degree awarded by the Universidade de Lisboa.
Surgeon at IPO, Instituto Português de Oncologia (Portuguese Institute of Oncology), Centro de Lisboa, Head and Neck Surgery Service, from 1989 to 2018.
Head of Service of the Head and Neck Surgery Service at IPO in Lisbon, from 2000 to 2018.
Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Lisbon (Chair in Medicine and Oral Pathology).
Main surgical activity : maxillofacial surgery and head and neck tumors.
Scientific coordinator appointed by the Ordem dos Médicos to prepare the clinical guidelines for oral cancer and oropharyngeal cancer at DGS (Directorate-General for Health) (2012/2013).
Since 2000 and until 2009 member of the Board of the College of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Ordem dos Médicos.
